(Holyoke, Mass.) Holyoke Mayor Michael Sullivan cut the ribbon at 11:00 am on June 10, 2003 officially opening the Annual Exhibit of Student and Faculty art work at the Holyoke Creative Arts Center (HCAC). Members of the Small Planet Dancers also offered a demonstration of international folk dances to open the festivities. The exhibit was open on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 10 & 11, 2003, from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Center is located in the rear of the South Street Plaza, at the Holyoke entrance of I-391. Admission was free and the Exhibit was open to the public.

Fine art and hand-crafted items made by HCAC students, faculty, and area artists was offered for sale. Some visitors to the Exhibit also commissioned a "sidewalk portrait" created on site by HCAC instructor, Debra Barboza. The Center's cookbook "Creative Cooking" was available for purchase, along with new Note Cards featuring art by HCAC instructors.

A Raffle to support the Center's programs after its loss of all state funding included a handmade quilt, a 1-year AAA membership, an 8-week Course of your choice at the Holyoke Creative Arts Center, a Round of Golf for four at the Ledges Golf Club,

cash certificates toward non-credit classes at Holyoke Community College and Peter Pan bus tour tickets to Boston. The raffle drawing was held at the close of the Exhibit on Wednesday, June 11 at 7:30 pm. The Exhibit also included a Bake Sale and Tea Cup Auction.

The Annual Exhibit, held early each June, showcases the wonderful art work in many different disciplines done by students and faculty at the Creative Arts Center all year long, said HCAC Director, Andrew Baker. It’s a great way to check out the art classes we offer, see the work that comes out of them, and even take some of it home.

Registrations for Summer and Fall art classes are accepted during the Exhibit. The six-week Summer Arts Program for youth and adults begins on June 23 and runs to August 2. The Holyoke Creative Arts Center (HCAC) is a non-profit arts learning center offering very affordable, high quality Fine Arts & Home Crafts instruction to both adults and children from Holyoke and from communities throughout the Pioneer Valley. Classes are taught by experienced crafters, artists and professional educators. HCAC has been teaching arts to area children and adults for over 80 years.
